The user is shown how to complete basic functions, such as opening the application and saving files, as well as learning about specific PrintMusic! features. The text is aimed at beginner computer users, so terms like "wizard," "radio buttons," and "dialog box" are explained in chapter 1. Extra hints and information are also provided from time to time in outlined boxes, separate to the main text. The drills are numbered step-by-step commands for completing a particular task, such as adding octave symbols to a score. Each of the chapters ends with a summary of what has been covered in that chapter and projects are provided based on this material. Each chapter contains lots of screenshots, explanations of functions, bulleted lists, drills, and projects. The book contains six chapters and as many appendices. The approach the author has taken is to introduce in a cohesive and logical way the many features and functions the user will need to prepare professional-looking musical scores. A consistent approach is taken to displaying these differences, so the reader is not distracted by the occasional separate image, or the more frequent differences between the Command (for Macintosh) and Ctrl (for Windows) key instructions. Separate instructions are given where commands and functions differ between operating systems. The text of The PrintMusic! is written for both the Macintosh and Windows editions of the Primer software.

One of the buildings on the Physical Graffiti album cover are the same stoops where Mick is seen cooling his heels before Keef boogies along and collects him in the Rolling Stones’ “Waiting on a Friend” music video (also shot in the perennially divvy shithole, the St. Marks Place between First Avenue and Avenue A: Next time you’re in NYC, you can take a selfie or something cute for your Instagram account in front of the Physical Graffitea shop (and then, as the tee-shirt says, you can “go the fuck home.”) Now there’s probably an app for finding it. It’s the faces (sconces) that are ultimately the dead giveaway. Eventually a second-hand clothing store called Physical Graffiti opened up in the basement making it glaringly obvious to any tourist with half a clue and willing to look up. Even in a pre-Internet era, I’m pretty sure that most people who lived on that block knew that they lived near the Physical Graffiti cover. I’ve walked past this site a gazillion times. The inner sleeve could be combined in a number of ways to make different covers, and there was an inner sleeve designed by Mike Doud with all the song titles that saw the title written out on closed window shades:įor several years in the 1980s, I lived on this very block, and then right around the corner. Amongst the tenants who can be seen through the die-cut windows are JFK assassin Lee Harvey Oswald, astronaut Neil Armstrong, Elizabeth Taylor as Cleopatra, King Kong, the Virgin Mary, Judy Garland and the main cast of The Wizard of Oz, members of Led Zeppelin in drag, their infamous manager Peter Grant, body builder Charles Atlas, the Queen and Laurel & Hardy. The front cover is a daytime shot, while the back cover was taken at night. The fourth floors were cropped out entirely to better form a square album cover, and the windows were cut out holes, something similar to what the group had already done with the spinning wheel cover of III. Mark’s Place in New York’s East Village, near Tompkins Square Park. The outer cover art is a heavily doctored photograph of two side-by-side five-story tenement buildings discovered by designer Peter Corriston located at #96 and #98 St. It’s the ultimate Led Zeppelin tour de force. In any case, I recall it being a real event in my young life to get to finally own that epic thing and I listened to it so many times before I even reached my teens that it became a part of my DNA. I think I ended up getting it as like an Easter present or something. I coveted that album but it was too expensive for me to buy at that age. I can remember seeing Physical Graffiti when it first turned up in record stores-it was a very solid package, heavy in the hand and also mysterious looking, like some sort of mass-produced, cellophane-wrapped occult object d’art. I was nine then, and already a budding rock snob and Led Zeppelin fanatic after buying their first four albums at a neighbor’s garage sale for a quarter each ( Score!). Physical Graffiti was originally released on February 25, 1975. Fields, Pope Leo XIII, and Buzz Aldrin.Īdditionally, the front side of the album jacket is a daytime scene, while the back is a night scene. With just a few days to go before the release of the newly remastered and expanded “super-deluxe” version of Led Zeppelin’s Physical Graffiti album-my personal favorite, although I’m also partial to III-I thought it would be a good time to post about its iconic cover art. Another sleeve scene includes photos of notable celebrities in each window, including W. One such scene is, of course, the red letters that spell out “Physical Graffiti” in each window. The original album jacket included internal sleeves that could be swapped out to present different scenes in the St. Corriston also collaborated with art director and designer Mike Doud on a unique feature for the Physical Graffiti album. Graphic designer Peter Corriston found the buildings for the cover and masterminded the artwork into existence. It’s actually two physical places it’s two apartment buildings that were built side by side at 96 and 98 St. The building on the cover of the Physical Graffiti album is a physical place. So, read below for the little-known story behind the Physical Graffiti album cover. The solemn-seeming album cover is mysterious, yet curious, and we wanted to know more. But what is not commonly known, is the story behind the album’s immediately recognizable album art. Is it the band’s lead singer and lyricist Robert Plant? The lengthy, but iconic, “ Stairway to Heaven“? Whatever it may be, we can’t help but think of “Kashmir” and the album that houses the song, Physical Graffiti.īut what of Physical Graffiti? We know that it was officially released in 1975 as a double album and that the record has only grown in significance since then. What comes to mind when you hear the band name Led Zeppelin? Traditionally, the USDA-NRCS, FSA and other organizations have provided growers support to successfully adopt new practices. It is unfair and unrealistic to place the burden of climate change mitigation on the backs of the farmers while not offering them support to limit risk. Provide Technical Assistance for GrowersĪn additional market staller is cost and varied results of carbon-positive practices. It is important to swiftly capitalize on the hope of the markets today and establish guidelines. The Growing Climate Solutions Act offers guidance, assuming the USDA can act quickly and pragmatically. From farmers to offsetters, eyes are on the USDA to provide guidance on what is “good enough” for quantification and verification. With accelerated demand for high reliability soil carbon measurement, academia and industry are developing guidelines. Weather, climate, management and other factors make it more complex. Carbon in the soil is hard to measure precisely under the best conditions with unlimited resources. One is forcing production cropping systems to meet the same standards and accounting applied to carbon capture machinery, renewable energy, or even forests. Using a living, breathing, working farm to drawdown and sequester soil carbon as means to offset a corporation’s carbon emissions poses several challenges. Bring Clarity to Standards of Quantification & Verification Legacy climate and carbon programs were created with other industries – like energy, oil and gas – in mind.īy bringing either pragmatic clarity or slow and inefficient action, government intervention can help or hinder these nascent, unrealized markets. Farmers often rent some or all of their fields. Debates on methodology, protocol, avoidance and additionality are spirited. Everyone seems to be jumping onto the soil carbon bandwagon, and a plethora of NGOs, public-private consortia, academic working groups and private companies are rushing in to define and deliver on the promise of soil carbon sequestration.Īlong with all the buzz comes a healthy amount of skepticism and confusion, including the still emerging role of government. It’s no wonder that regenerative agriculture and carbon markets have become the biggest story in ag. They also provide an additional revenue stream to growers, compensating and incentivizing them for adapting best practices. Regenerative practices-such as cover crops, no-till and reduced nutrient application-have the potential to reduce the GHG footprint of farming and mitigate climate change through the sequestration of atmospheric carbon. Regenerative agriculture and the voluntary soil carbon markets emerging around it represent a significant solution to a modern, resilient, and secure food system. The proclamations are impressive, but how will corporations attain their goals? More than 50 major corporations have announced their intent to be carbon-neutral by 2040 and over 900 US companies have gone public with one kind of climate or carbon project commitment. Today, more than 100 voluntary carbon markets and over 60 different pricing solutions are jockeying for buyers and investors. Its promise masks agricultural and environmental realities resulting in an agtech gold rush. The nature-based carbon market is confusing and controversial.
